Foreign Ministry condemns Saudi bombing of Dhamar prison

SANA'A - Yemen’s Foreign Ministry has on Sunday renewed its call to form an international committee in order to probe the crime committed by the Saudi-led coalition airstrikes against prisoners in Dhamar prison.

The minister said in a statement that “targeting of prisoners of war is a war crime and a flagrant violation against international humanitarian law.”

The statement denied the coalition’s allegation that its airstrikes hit a military site, noting that the International Committee of the Red Cross visited the prison regularly.

“The coalition countries don’t only obstruct the prisoner exchange deal from the UN-sponsored Stockholm Agreement, but they deliberately target prisoners in a number of places,” it added.

The ministry called on the United Nations and the international community to condemn the crime against prisoners and all crimes and violations committed against citizens in Yemen since 2015.

On Sunday, airstrikes on a prison in Dhamar killed and injured more than a hundred prisoners who had previously fought alongside the Saudi Arabia-UAE coalition in various fronts
